Troy's Scribbles: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission is a joke

An important read that points out how bogus Harper's apology was and continues to be.

I am not yet decided on whether the commission is indeed just "fancy trappings" or whether it may turn out to be what it is meant to be.

Hence, I'm keeping close tabs in the meantime ...

Harper has aligned himself with the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) who are very conservative and do not represent status On-Reserve FN or Inuit people. Here is a link to their web site:

Personally, I don't think the Assembly of First Nations is militant enough but that's another story. All I know is that the funding for the "truth and reconciliation" process doesn't appear to be drawn from a new envelope. IOW, INAC money earmarked for other important needs might be diverted to fund this.

I should add that CAP was the only Aboriginal organization invited to the throne speech along with another favourite group of Harper's, the Salvation Army. (You should take a look at how much money the latter are receiving from various federal departments these days... but I digress.)

I really like your blog quote, btw -- the one that encouraged you to found your blog. It's very wise. We should never settle for the unacceptable - to let it become the norm. Once we do, the door to what we once had slams shut behind us.
